نوکِ مداد را چون زیاده تیز کنی، شکسته می‌شود؛
کوزه را چون زیاده پُر کنی؛ آب بیهوده می‌شود؛
دارایی چون از اندازه بیش شود، دارنده نگهبان می‌شود؛
پس، کوچه‌ی انباشتِ ثروت و نازِش بن‌بست است؛
پس، نیمه‌ی راه، بهتر از تمامِ راه است؛
پس، میانه‌رو، از لغزش دور است.
خردمند، از هرچه رنگِ تعلق پذیرد آزاد است؛
فرزانه، چون کار را به پایان رسانَد، از آن کناره گیرد؛
این است شیوه‌ی سرشتِ راستین؛
کردن، بی‌دلبستگی؛ داشتن، بی چسبندگی.

If you sharpen a pencil beyond measure, it will break;
If you fill a vessel to excess, its water runs to waste;
If you make your wealth exceed its bounds, the owner becomes its keeper.
The alley of hoarding and pride ends in a blind wall.
Thus, half the way is better than the whole way;
And the one who walks in moderation remains free from misstep.
The wise are unbound by anything that bears the color of possession;
And the sage, having completed the work, steps away from it.
Such is the manner of the true nature:
Doing without clinging; possessing without attachment.
